Spread out across Rook, the various adventurers, scholars, thieves and drunkards eventually found themselves at the Plow and listening to a trio of foresters about trees that moved up north near where the mist encroached at night. Though they themselves couldn't offer payment, one of them led the group up to 'Got Wood?', the lumber company warehouse and trade building in the northern docks which Deverdon had visited before, concerning spiders. The long suffering clerk running the place, still burned from paying out on so many jobs without evidence, listened to the tales of moving trees from an employee and sighed a lot since the man smelled of whiskey. Regardless, after sending the man home, the clerk did promise to pay should the group come back with evidence of moving trees or plants which could interfere with logging operations. Lorek, owning a cart, went and got it set up and the group headed off. After most of a day traveling it was getting dark and the mist was covering a significant part of the forest, so everyone wisely waited till the morning before heading deeper in search of ambling trees.
It wasn't long before a shivering mound of leaves and wines was seen, which quickly made it's way towards the party once they started messing with it. Dirk's prodigious girth and armour were no match for the thing's masterful attack and he proceeded to be held in a loving, but constricting, embrace till he fell unconscious. Barley, ever the optimist, spotted another one off to the west doing nothing, so went and shot it to simply be time efficient. As the first one was brought down, Barley found himself in the embrace of the second and was swiftly crushed, managing to drink a potion, or rather swill it, which caused him to sprout wings and become significantly harder to damage. Lorek proceeded to blind the mounds throughout the fight, his glittering dust doing pretty well overall. Primrose however had far less luck, being unable to make either of the mounds misfortunate at all. As Barley got close to ebbing away, Azziel and Deverdon threatened the mound which prompted it to drop Barley and lash out, grabbing Azziel instead. She regretted everything at that point.
Regardless the second mound was also brought low, and Barley conducted reconnaissance by flying up to the canopy to get a better look around. The assassin vines up there were only too happy to oblige and a pair of them began squeezing him gently. Lorek, ever the man with options, greased up Barley nicely at range, allowing him to wriggle free as a vine failed to maintain it's hold on him whilst the second made it's way to the ground floor. As Barley went to move away however a vine lashed out and knocked him unconscious, leaving him to plummet 40 feet to the floor. Only Dirk's prepared girth saved him, as the cushion-like layer of fat robbed the fall from almost certain lethal force. The vines slowly crept down to tackle the party head on, though at their speed everyone just backed slowly away and shot at them, Lorek's masterful pinpoint shots causing impressive damage and bringing both of them down with some aid from the rest of the group. Heaping the pair on the cart with the pair of mounds, everyone deemed that was enough evidence and headed back to Rook.
At 'Got Wood', a local expert identified the plants for what they were and everyone was paid. When said expert was mildly sarcastic to Azziel, she stole his payment as a matter of course though their prospective employer witnessed the act and pointed out she should return it or simply not be hired again. She deftly ignored this, so the man went to report her to a nearby guard, prompting her to run and hide. Barley, wondering what was going on, clarified the situation, drank a potion and grew wings and went to hunt her down to recover the gold, to no avail. Returning to the group, minus Azziel, it was decided that Ploatus the alchemist would probably buy the plants as it was likely they could be smoked - Lorek knew this to be fact for at least the vines, if not the more resinous mounds. True enough Ploatus did pay relatively well for them, but professed a preference for live ones next time. With Azziel not currently around the split was more favourable for everyone else, to their enjoyment.
It seemed like selling weeds to dabblers could make pretty good profit, overall.
