Zarus is being completely cooperative with the guard and will tell them that he did not kill the guard, or did he intend to. (Which is not a lie so no need for bluff or sense motive). He will also tell them who actually killed the guard if they ask him.

They indeed will ask, as well as confirming that Zarus did knowingly and intentionally break in to private property.

He will also mention that he followed the others in because they had a strong theory that there might have been a girl that had been kidnapped inside due to a number of eyewitnesses saying that one of the brewers had kidnapped and drugged a young girl. When the others talked to the guards before the guards said that they weren't planning to be on the case for about two weeks and that seemed unacceptable to him that the good guards of Rook would leave this girl kidnapped for two weeks.

They'll be confused at this, as currently 4 guards are on the case - only the one who was initially given the report is on holiday.
They'll ask again who killed the old man.

Zarus told them the first time they asked that it was Valkyrie, although he does not know her real name. He will also tell them that he only knew what the other people had told him since he did not actually speak to the guards, and when the others told him they did not seem to be lying to him.

The guards will thank Zarus for the testimony as well as get him to write up a written statement and description of Valkyrie.
An official fine of 750gp will be directed to Zarus as reparations for Breaking and Entering. If this is paid, Zarus will be free to go. If not, Zarus will be jailed.
