Today’s quest was brought by none other than a frantic Rainen. He ran into the Plow shouting for help, and with very little deliberation, Aluin, Hector, Yuzuki, Dirk, Gruengi and Umni chased after him to help. He explained a little of what was going on along the way, and soon enough they reached the west docks and got onto a boat. After departing, he continued where he left off and let the party know the full story. A group of Ifrit were attacking a cave of water nymph and Undine that Rainen had grown close to over the last few months. He tried to fight them off, but found himself vastly outnumbered to take them on on his own.
Upon arriving, Rainen told the party to wait a bit while he cleared out the entrance, which was accomplished swiftly. After descending the cliff, the party quickly stormed the Cave while Rainen promised to cover the entrance and do his best to prevent reinforcements from trapping them in a pincer attack. The fight began swiftly and the party nearly found themselves hurting by the first group they ran in to. A second group surprised them a little ways down the hall and that fight nearly ended in disaster as Hector almost immediately went down in flames. Dirk was soon to follow but Gruengi was able to restore both of them to fighting condition.
Their second fight over, the party came in contact with the Undine and Nymphs they were sent to rescue. The Nymphs were able to restore the fading party somewhat to their former glory in a rather roundabout fashion, and with a bit of healing bolstering their courage, they continued onwards through the cave, and Aluin found himself face to face with a bunch of fire, much like Hector had before him. He valiantly continued on, assisted by his party, and soon enough another battle was won. Unfortunately, the battle was won after the party, minus Umni and Gruengi who had the mind to back away, and Aluin, who was skilled enough to dodge, found themselves immolated by a ring of fire from a self destructing fire elemental. Hector, Yuzuki and Dirk found themselves lit aflame but managed to enact a chain of putting each other out.
Bruised but no longer burning, the party continued. Dirk found pause and advanced carefully, before Yuzuki rushed ahead of him and took two balls of fire to the face for his efforts. Once again the party was locked in mortal combat and flames were thrown about causing the party extensive pain and suffering. Hope seemed lost as a few cones of fire rendered the majority of the party unconscious, but Dirk with his dwarven constitution and Yuzuki with his indomitable will persevered along with the help of Aluin who was barely standing.
They once again found themselves in need of the healing prowess of the nymphs, but it was discovered that from that point on they would be on their own as the nymphs were unable to heal them all a third time. Advancing with great trepidation and care, Dirk advanced to the last corner of the cave they hadn’t yet cleared. As he turned the corner, a great blast of fire emerged and melted away at his shield. His shield was melted into oblivion and Dirk took exception to that. He destroyed the offending fire elemental, found himself and Aluin burninated once more, losing the scraps of his once proud beard, and then brutally murdered the final ifrit after Aluin fatally wounded the second to last one.
Their mission completed, they gathered up the loot from the ifrit and claimed their reward from the Undine and nymphs. The nymphs shared a laugh among each other at Aluins expense, who of course was completely oblivious as to the reason why they were laughing, and nobody had the heart to tell him what was wrong, but of course him being proud of himself found no fault in the dilapidated state of his and his parties clothing. They then hauled their collection outside of the cave to find a sleeping Rainen among a considerably larger collection of ifrit then the number they fought inside. Upon waking him up, Aluin discovered just how important this colony was to him, but all hostilities were diffused once Rainen had the chance to talk to his adoptive clan. They then returned to Rook in order to exchange all of their loot into gold, and all went their separate ways.
