Through various grapevines and networks, a bunch of acquaintances heard of the rumours that strange cloaked individuals were roaming the streets of the southern slum district at night - generally keeping to themselves, leaving most people alone and being quite unresponsive. Even so, in the last few nights when this phenomenon had started coincided with people beginning to go missing at a rate slightly higher than the local Watch Houses considered normal for the part of the city. Looking to canvas for information, the group found Dirk hunkered down outside, his mighty dwarven spherical form residing under a nearby street bridge in the city, his presence having turfed out other homeless who had dwelt in the area previously. Seemingly on first name terms with the local watch, Dirk was able to recount about the strange cloaked people at night, though admittedly didn't have much information or detail as he'd been left essentially alone by them so hadn't paid them much heed. As such several of the group asked around for a few hours whilst everyone else drank away the time in The Golden Plow. It was found that one bystander had tried to interact with them, only to be scared by the skeleton mask and thus left them alone.
After a small bout of gambling in the Plow, the ensemble decided to wait till night and see what was going on for themselves as the local Watch House had been willing to help, but hadn't much information to share around. Since they had been promised payment for information on the whereabouts of the missing people, the group endured the wait and ventured outside once midnight had chimed. Sure enough, individuals in cloaks were beginning to filter through the streets. After close inspection involving Ben trying to throttle one to see if it'd attack back, it was discovered that the rather skinny individuals were in fact cloaked skeletons, and largely placid. Once attacked however they were roused to battle and seemed to work fairly well together, though their bony claws and strikes largely did nothing to anyone as they were gradually dismantled. Looking through the streets, more skeletons were found and Dirk started to push a couple of them down an opened manhole in to the sewers. As someone opened a door to talk to a resident about the dangers of skeletons, the skeleton still standing next to the door casually stabbed the poor man, killing him fairly quickly. With a slight sigh, impressive considering the skeleton had no lungs, it collapsed in to dust and the deceased man immediately leaped up to slam in to Aluin, who took a heavy hit and backed off, beginning to feel quite ill.
As the skeletons were once again gradually taken care of, one lucky bag of bones managing a 1 in 400 chance to critically hit Dirk for some lovely damage as he went to casually walk away from it, more deceased peasants and residents turned up not smelling their best. Dirk felt a pang of guilt for shoving skeletons down in to the sewers, but a shield wall was quickly formed as the zombies crashed against it and got efficiently hacked down. Aluin was looking pretty bad at this point, but the group decided to follow their original plan and follow the wandering skeletons back to their source. A 30 minute walk out of Rook to the slight southwest saw them find the entrance to a cavern that went underground, albeit not very deep. It seemed like a natural cavern that had had someone haphazardly try to smooth the walls and build within it, though the most important part was the fairly constant stream of skeletons in robes wandering in and out as they continued their nightly jaunt to Rook. Entering, the group found several more skeletons and a rather more imposing figure, also made of bone, who seemed to exert his will over them. Both sides rushed to attack, with Aluin being grabbed in a bony embrace as his constitution began to fail him, his flesh taking on the pallor of the zombies they had previously fought, necrotic energies sapping his tenacity and reserves. As the skeletons were overpowered, Aluin moved forwards only to be attacked by the one clearly in charge, who struck him down with a mighty critical blow that saw him mere slivers from death.
Dirk raced to his rescue, saving him with a potions seconds before Aluin departed the world completely. Battered but not broken, the skeleton in charge went to rend another only to be felled by an impressive headbutt from Dirk, his dwarven helmet finally breaking some of the important bindings holding the being together. As he crumbled so did the figures outside and in Rook, prompting the group to collect what notes they could, as well as a vast selection of carved and arcane rune-marked bones to take back and present back to the Rook Watch. Impressed by their endeavors and retellings of what had happened, and armed with new information, the Rook Watch willingly paid them their dues before Aluin, looking utterly wrecked, dragged himself to a temple of Desna for some much needed clerical healing.
All in all i had been a successful night, though of the entity that had raised such a placid for in the first place, there wasno sign.
