Character Description
Richard can typically be found wearing Ebony armor with a long lance strapped across his back. He is almost never seen without his trusty grey steed by his side.
Character Background
Richard Trent was born in the outskirts of the empire to an errant soldier and his seamstress wife. In his youth he found it difficult to decide who exactly it was he wished to be, until by happenstance he found a scarlet sentinel recruiting outpost, which he entered in a spur of the moment whim. Spending the better part of a decade training with the scarlet sentinels Richard learned the values of loyalty, friendship and honor; Richard wished for nothing more then to use the abilities and values taught to him by the sentinels to serve his homeland. A couple of months after his training was finally completed he found his chance to prove his worth and enlisted into the Imperial Army, which needed soldiers for it's ongoing conflict with the orcs of the north. After receiving a young foal, whom he affectionately dubbed Charleston, Richard rode into his first battle on a spur of passion, his thirst for glory and to protect his homeland seemingly impossible to quench.
9 months later Richard had seen to much. Every day Richard followed a set routine, wake up to the sound of screams and trumpets, wash the blood out of his horse Charlestons hooves and trot out to pierce some more orcish peasants through the brain with a group of fellow soldiers who died so fast that Richard didn't even bother remembering their names anymore. Where he once felt a rush of excitement running into every battle, horror when he was forced to watch his peers die and a passionate hatred for his orcish, he now only felt numb and oddly enough bored. Richard couldn't even bring himself to feel a particular anger towards his enemies anymore and in his quieter moments he wondered if the orcish barbarians had started to feel this whole war thing was a bit of a chore to. When the war ended with an imperial victory felt no patriotic zeal or even a sense of accomplishment and indeed after the war was over and he was left with nothing more then a horse and his small military pension was more anxious then anything else. All his life he had lusted after glory and a sense of comrade, he thought the war could give him that, but all the war seemed to have given him was a casual disregard for the sanctity of life.
Richard wanted to find the truth behind the glory and sense of achievement that men had written about for centuries, the feeling that made so many men leap willingly into the jaws of death. So one day he simply packed up his belongings and left on his trustworthy horse knowing that somewhere out there was the answer he sought. He stumbled through portals and wandered the deserts of Orashar for what seemed like years, he learned the desert way and learned something of the profound truths of the wind, but he did not find the secrets of glory. Leaving the deserts and arriving in the strange metropolis of Rook saw the adventurers who accomplished such grand acts like Mierre and Lorek, Ben and Rainen. Hoping that he would find the passion he sought by following their footsteps Richard embarked upon life as an adventurer
