Name: Adris Burche
Description:
Tall and broad, Adris cuts an imposing figure. His face is stern and weathered by the fires of both the forge and the battlefield. He wears sturdy armor and carries a large spiked shield that has obviously seen many battles yet has been expertly and lovingly maintained. Even beyond his appearance, he seems to carry an aura that commands attention. When he speaks, people tend to listen.
Background:
Adris was born to a prominent Rook blacksmith. From the time he was old enough to lift a hammer, he was fascinated by his father's craft and spent as much time in the workshop as he could. He showed a remarkable affinity for armor, and shields in particular. While other kids played with toy swords, he would grab the nearest plate or wooden plank and focus on defense. After all, what good was a sword if it couldn't hit its target? He even learned to use his shield offensively, catching his opponents off guard with a well-timed bash.
As he grew older, he dreamed of becoming a soldier to defend Rook from its enemies. On his 18th birthday his father presented him with a special gift: a shield, engraved with images of a lion and a turtle. "May these always watch over you, son," he said. "In all that you do, be both courageous and steadfast, and you'll surely find success." With that, Adris took his new shield and trusty hammer and set off to enlist in the Rook Guard.
Adris quickly rose through the ranks of the Guard. He had a natural ability for leadership and was at his best when fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with his comrades, defending them with his shield and inspiring them with his words. His mind seemed forged of the same steel as his shield; at times when others would be cowed or confused, Adris stood firm and resolute. As time went on, however, he became dissatisfied with his position in the Guard. Threats to Rook were increasing, and there was only so much that the Guard could do within the bounds of the city and the law.
He began to pay more attention to the numerous adventurers gathering in Rook. Although some were well-known to the Guard, having provided extraordinary service to the city, most of them seemed like disorganized rabble, rushing off to get themselves killed at the first opportunity. However, Adris's experience and keen insight told him that, with a little guidance and protection, they might become a powerful force indeed. The path he must take became clear: he resigned his post with the Guard and headed off toward the Plow...
