Lord Daron, hearing of an old friend of his is in need, sends Miere, Capitalist and Hagen to render assistance. The trio first passed by the Golden Plow in order to find additional companions. They met with Haru, who suggested they pick up Sabien at the clinic, while Finn watched from the shadows. Upon meeting Laiss, Lord Daron’s friend, they quickly became familiar with his situation.
As it turns out, Laiss claimed to be a farmer who had his livestock decimated, and his daughter taken from him by a troll of all things. A few members of the party point out the flaws in his story, but the offer of 3000 gold was more than enough to sway the party’s favor, and bring Finn out of hiding to join the group. With a minor bit of discomfort at this story of Laiss’, the group sets off.
An hour into their journey, and after much deliberation, Finn confronts Laiss on his clearly falsified story. Laiss immediately becomes shaken from Finn’s intimidation, not expecting his story to be called out this late into things, and immediately admits to the true chain of events. He says his Daughter had taken her Dowry as well as one out of the ten horses he had, his “livestock”, and ran away to live with the troll. Upon revealing this, he then offered the party a sum of 8000 gold. Once finished with his reveal, he called out to his driver who had hidden himself a mile away from the group. They then rode in style and comfort to their destination.
Upon arriving, the party entered the troll’s domain, with Laiss promptly fleeing despite his promise to wait for the group to return. When they entered the cave, they found that not only was the troll happily married to a perfectly willing wife, the two also had a child together. A rather unfortunate chain of events avoided, the group quickly learned the troll had a problem of his own. A colony of ants lived quite literally next door to him.
With a renewed promise of gold behind them, the adventurers set off to caves unknown. Things began as rather uneventful. Finn killed some ants, Captialist killed a drone, and the party quickly noticed the ants becoming stronger. Not ten ants into the fight, Finn and Capitalist began competing to see who could kill the most, with Hagen joining in on the fun. A few warrior ants showed up, and the party quickly found their foes to be much tougher than they had originally assumed them to be. Hagen’s rage grew, as did his size, Capitalist continued to slaughter the socialist brood, Fearsome Finn fantastically flayed the ferocious foe, Sabien found himself healing his companions for all he could, while Snivel and Haru collected shiny things and fighting the occasional ant.
The fighting dragged on for hours, but as Capitalist exploded in size and crushed a fifth ant drone, an anguished cry could be heard. The adventurers continued to press on, soon finding themselves faced with the queen of the ants herself. Finn carved a path into the warrior ants who blocked their way, and Capitalist capitalized on the efforts of Finn. Taking three hits from fearful ants, he pounced on the ant Queen, mauling and destroying her utterly. The ants, their unifying force lost, became all but cannon fodder for the adventurers to destroy at their leisure.
By the end of the fight, the kill count stood as such: Finn 16; Capitalist 15; Haru 1; Snivel 5; Hagen 10; Sabien 1. Miere and Capitalist then searched the cave, found an additional two magical items and various trinkets and treasures to equal a sum of 1600. They split the magic items up, then proceeded back to the cavern of the troll. Upon finding the troll and his wife in a rather personal moment, the group was able to confirm the validity of the relationship, and were then given permission to obtain various trinkets and treasures from the girl’s dowry, equalling a total of 3000 gold, with the promise they took nothing of sentimental importance.
Paid, and each brandishing a magical item to call their own, the party returned to Rook on foot, to the surprise of no one.
