As several new faces turned up to The Golden Plow to see what was going on, a portly chef came in and asked around if anyone was willing to help acquire some new succulent cuts of meat for him. His restaurant, The Meaty Joint, was running low due to the more affluent trade districts buying all the best meat and leaving the slums somewhat out of the proceedings. The offer of pay was low but seemed fair, and the group that quickly amassed all decided it was worth their while. With Barley's alchemical assistance in identifying potions, Haro decided to stock up on a bunch of potions as he had more cash than he really knew what to do with. Thaedius also picked up a curative to be on the save side and the party as a whole rented a horse and cart to carry back whatever they found. Heading out of the city, it wasn't long before they came across a body partially covered by underground in the forest a mere quarter day of travel from Rook.
Upon closer inspection it appeared to be a very deceased forester, mauled to death and missing his face, chest and most of the organs in his torso. You could say.... he was gutted to be in that situation. With nothing identifying the poor huntsmen, the party wondered what to do with them as Goot suggested that it was still meat. Whilst coming to a decision Haro decided to begin ambling off only to spot a bear and thus hide in the bushes. The bear, seeing its' meal disturbed, rushed forwards roaring and proceeded to get stabbed, shocked, bombed and generally beaten in to the floor. This resulted in a very nice hefty corpse which the party promptly lifted on to the cart once Haro had calmed down and blinkered the horse. Travelling onwards for another few hours saw them reach the place noted on the napkin map where the cavern should be which the chef had told them would contain the meat he was after.
As a group they headed down as quietly as they could, only for Haro to let rip a massive burst of flatulence, alerting the wild dogs milling below. As they rushed to attack the dogs were neatly bottle-necked and dispatched one by one, never really managing to land much of a hit. Cautiously the party edged forwards and managed to spy another dog, though Cook mentioned that it sounded like more were in wait. Haro, ever the cheerful drunk, went forwards to investigate and neatly got attacked, fending them off as everyone else helped to burst them down. Taking a moment to regain their breath, the party used a selection of curatives to bring themselves to a much healthier state before Haro headed forwards. As he went past a rocky outcrop however a gnoll smartly stepped round and with a single mighty blow floored the poor monk, high pitched giggling echoing through the cavern. Cook attempted a daring forward roll to pass by the thing and get to Haro to heal him, only for the gnoll to slam him flat in to the ground and rendering him deeply unconscious. A selection of bombs essentially took the gnoll apart and Haro and Cook were swiftly brought round and healed up as they party noted the gnoll's weapon was of particularly nice dwarven manufacture.
Everyone could hear a low rumbling coming from deeper in the cavern, so they crept forwards to see what was causing the noise. As Thaedius went up to see the most tucked away areas, a large hyena covered in protrusions and growling deeply wriggled it's way forwards, darting in to bite him. It's jaws clamped around him and shook him roughly like a ragdoll - the half-orc instantly went down. As before, the pair of alchemists started bombing the hell out of it as Haro made sure Thaedius was stable then proceeded to start punching the hyena thing. It wasn't long before the mighty creature fell to the ground, unable to withstand the sheer volume of acids and fires being thrown at it. Congratulating themselves, the party proceeded to haul every carcass on to the cart and head back to Rook by evening.
Deeply impressed by the massive haul he wasn't expecting, the chef not only treated them all to a slap up meal from their efforts but also paid them a premium price. He let them know that if they ever had that volume of meat again to let him know and he'd pay them handsomely for their efforts. It was, overall, the most successful hunting Rook had seen for a good long while - a bear, 6 dogs, 2 gnolls and a dire hyena.
