It seemed like a normal day, flyers included, when the group noticed the Portal had been closed! Quickly going to Bergstein, he explained with exasperation that Cloud City had shut the portal down due to the risk Rook's inhabitants posed should the flyer rumours be true - the capability of which had been verified by the Elven embassy due to an outstanding grudge against Naya's father. Commander Bergstein was effectively having a very stressful day and hopeful that the group could, as per their usual capabilities, make the situation better. Naya communicated with the Commander from Cloud City via a sending, organizing a meeting shortly. Going outside, the group went to meet up with him by the Portal upon which Naya effectively convinced him to go back and open it. This he did as the group returned to Bergstein for the wait, only for a panicked guard to burst in to the room stating that multiple portals had opened up and monsters of shadow and darkness were coming through.
Quicking heading outside and running to the closest, the group were confronted by a Nightwalker and a quartet of greater shadows who had begin to spread out. With the general populace panicking and streaming around them the heroes proceeded to take down the threat only for a second wave, then a third to emerge in short order. Lorek and Varian, flying high, saw that in total there were 5 portals - quickly dispelling the one they were at, they began picking off the other portals though each had a flood of greater shadows, created shadows and Nightwalkers. No matter the prowess of Naya and Ben it tide was alarming expanding as greater shadows spread out and started invading homes, creating more shadows out of sight from the group only for those shadows to in turn go in to other properties. It wasn't long before Varian began describing the situation as impossible and unwinnable, his essence draining from him as he gave in to defeatism and negativity.
Lorek, who had quickly worked out the situation was highly unlikely as everyone seemed to have far too much time to plan out how to deal with the situation, yet the situation escalated faster than they could even react with this dilated time, swiftly overpowered the illusion and found himself by the central portal in Rook, next to a comatose party - clearly under the sway of the same magic he had just overpowered. He proceeded to spend his time trying to wake the others, eventually being joined by Naya, Ben and then Primrose. In the illusion Rainen and Varian were largely at a loss, finally coming round as their essence was strongly ripped from them for not holding on to hope.
With Rook seemingly fine, and Lorek and Naya having witnessed a glimpse of the Diviner porting away with a smug smile, the group collected their wits as the Cloud City Commander showed up through the portal. Naya essentially repeated the conversation she had, convincing him that keeping the portal open would be overall beneficial to both Rook and Cloud City. Thus the portal was kept open as the group discussed what had happened and whether it was a vision of what could be done as a warning to back off, or if the Diviner was basically just a prick. Ben, going to get more information, eventually let on to the group that the Diviner had already proceeded to consume and usurp Apollyon with Nerull's help, and the pair were now effectively working together. This just served to be more vexing news overall.
