Varian headed towards the temple of Desna after a tip off from Miere's scrying to go and find Neigh, though the man was well hidden enough that he was unable to locate him. He did however locate Diane in the stable outside and conversed with her as best he could, finding out that Neigh had indeed requested asylum from the temple. Naya meanwhile spent a not insignificant amount of time going round Rook wearing various disguises and doing her best to convince people that Neigh's flyers were in fact false, mere rumours and libel. Naya's convincing personality means this went down quite successfully in Rook, though the fact the flyers had gone out bloody everywhere put a slight dampener on her success. It wasn't long before the Psionidari called everyone together as they had located, to the best of their knowledge, the two smaller ziggurats used for the rituals each solstice in the jungle for Nerull, and sought to send the group to check them out and potentially take out the clerics there since it was roughly the correct time to find them.
As such everyone went to the jungle and were immediately aware that there seemed to be nothing living around. No birds, no insects, no fish, no people. Nothing alive. Roughly every 3 minutes two reverberating rumbles shuddered through the land around them - an occurrence it didn't take long to identify as some kind of heartbeat. Flying upwards, Ben looked for the other ziggurats and quickly found them not too far away, the pair forming a nice equilateral triangle with the volcano basin - which looked utterly blasted and ruined. Ben could also see that there appeared to be people lying down on the ziggurats and, when the group got close to the first one, it was found that they were in fact 763 ritualistically eviscerated and hollowed out clerical bodied dedicated to Nerull. At the peak all the organs had been arranged in symbols of Nerull around a large focusing crystal. This was carefully removed by Ben and handed to Samael as the organs were then melted down to acidic ooze. Taking out his lantern, Ben began consecrating the area which, thanks to Naya's sight, appeared to be releasing masses of souls. Naya saw they almost managed to get away before being drawn inexorably towards the basin again, and thus she warned Ben to stop as it was likely counterproductive.
Going to the other ziggurat the second gem was removed and handed to Samael, who put it with the other one. With a bell-like chime the two crystals connected and Samael immediately began to shudder. A sickly green light emanated from between his armour joints as the long-ago inscribed prayers to Apollyon on his form flowed free and snaked through the air to Lisa who had already been blessed by Nerull. As they branded themselves on to her flesh they warped and twisted, the prayers to Apollyon first becoming mocking before transliterating themselves to a hymn to Nerull himself. Lisa's flesh grew waxen and pale and she looked at the other in mild confusion as they suddenly became really cautious around her and she didn't know why. Rainen cheerfully asked if she could commune with Nerull now, a suggested that made Naya turn and call him out on his stupidity. Lisa found that indeed she could, and began asking for help as everyone seemed slightly less friendly now. As the group went to subdue her, a rift opened and she was plucked through. Thinking quickly, both Naya and ben nimbly jumped through before realizing they'd jumped in to Tartarus, the Red Prison, and possibly regretted their life choices. The rest of the group nope'd right on out of there and returned to Orashar to describe what had just happened.
Lisa, Naya and Ben found themselves suddenly in front of a mild mannered and polite skeletal being in death shrouds, who quite happily readily identified himself as what could best be described as a 'fragment' of the entity that was Nerull, premature as he was. After a brief and friendly chat he allowed them all to leave. Naya, Ben and Lisa found themselves quickly travelling to Orashar upon which Lorek saw they had a strange overwhelming aura of necromantic 'False Life' on them. Being the dutiful ally, he dispelled it on naya which instantly caused her to 'die'. Ben, seeing Lorek effectively kill Naya, quickly grabbed Lisa and rushed off via dimension door to head to House Malfuron in Rook. Knowing that they were probably scrying targets, Lorek quickly greater teleported everyone after Ben after sending to Naya to confirm she still existed and getting confirmation that the bodies were fakes - Naya was seated round a nightmarish table with a full course of tortured soul with Nerull, John Smith the diviner who had posed as Apollyon to Nerull and an unconscious Ben and Lisa. As such Ben and Lisa were quickly neutralized and woke up at the table, once more having a friendly chat with Nerull who seemed quite against Apollyon's plan on the whole and was quite happy to help.
This time Nerull actually let them leave properly as he'd learned what he wanted to. It seemed like House Malfuron was going to be a tempting target indeed, and he had a powerful diviner to help him get there...
