With a further request from the Psionidari, it seemed the time was upon the group to investigate the main ziggurat in the jungle to determine what kinds of rituals took place there, and what the end result for such machinations was. Provided with an altered teleportation orb, to facilitate everyone touching it since there were more than 3 people, the group headed back out in to the jungle. On their travels there were various ambushes, dangerous plants and assorted other hassles to be expected in a jungle environment, but eventually the group found their way to a clearing on the edge of the river that wound it's way through the jungle itself. On the cliff face across from them they saw high in the rock a giant carving reminiscent of a skull, the entrance the open maw. Naya remarked how they weren't even trying to be subtle at this point, and a discussion ensued as to how they'd get Diane across. This conversation involved blaming Lisa a lot for even bringing the horse in the first place, especially without Neigh since it was his companion, but eventually a dimension door later saw them able to tie her to a rocky outcrop at the entrance.
Making their way inside, everyone else eventually came across a fairly impressive stone temple within the basin of an inactive volcano - clearly safe. Upon closer inspection, it seemed like the stone had a strange texture and Lorek was the first to notice that it was all flesh that had been transmuted via flesh to stone. The entire temple and everything made within it were likely made from sacrifice materials or really unlucky people. Naya was impressed at the sheer evil wastefulness it took to build an entire sacrificial temple out of people. Regardless, the sarcophagus in the center drew everyone's attention eventually - floating slightly above the platform, with blue fire underneath it, it physically hurt to look at for Naya and Lorek who could see alignment and magic respectively. Norrel and Lisa were both started to discover that 'gravity' seemed to be pulling them towards the casket at twice the normal strength, so Norrel took refuse in Naya's satchel as Lisa clung on to Varian.
As the group explored the place, they heard Lisa begin to feverishly mutter to herself after a while, saying the following -
"To lay within the breast of god, so one may be close to him. Beseech thee, your blessing I crave to give un to others, the life past life that awaits. Admit me in to your bosom, so that my faith shall be tested as I rise again. To lay within the breast of god..."
This was seen as 'a bad thing' and the group briefly wondered what to do before she began to shudder, a manifestation of her screaming soul appearing as it was slowly forced out of her corporeal body. Alarmed, and sure it would at least halt the posession, Lorek quickly transmuted her to stone. Unfortunately he noticed that the stone she transformed in to was not the sort he usually made, but instead matched that of the temple - the half of her soul that was visible violently dissipated as it was effectively cut in half, her scream echoing through the space around them. This was slightly embarrassing for Lorek. Regardless, the group continued to look around. A large skull carving that radiated necromancy magic seemed to be designed to focus sunlight during the solstice through a pretty expensive looking crystal on to the casket itself. As such Lorek and Varian decided it was prudent to disintegrate it utterly. Looking at the main platform the casket was on, the group saw it was unsupported underneath and the weight was held up with the stairs connected at various points. After some discussion the group decided that destroying the casket would require an actual disjunction and thus it was easier to destroy the main load bearing steps - these were in turn disintegrated and the sarcophagus plummeted in to the inactive volcano. As they eventually heard it hit the bottom, the entire mountain began to tremble. It was at this point that Lorek proclaimed he knew it was a bad idea all along, and the group hasily used the orb to leave.
Assembling back in Orashar, everyone went to go report what they'd found to the Psionidari before Naya staggered and had to prop herself up against the wall briefly, before vomiting upon the group. face pale, she looked at the others and described the vision she just had - a vision of an immense god-like skeletal being swathed in corpse-shrouds and darkness rising from the heart of the volcano, arms raised in triumph and laughter for it was finally awoken and free. It was a premature awakening, and the being was likely much weaker as a result, but it was awake never the less. Naya shakily told the other, it seemed like they had just screwed up. They had screwed up a lot, and what was presumably Nerull was back once again, and back on the material plane...
