Naya had once again received information from her magical scar box that the 'statue' had been located, or as close as could be, on the plane of shadow. As such Naya assembled those she could find and set off shadow walking, bringing the group to what appeared to be a cavern. Outside were some Leukodaemons, as always, who didn't take kindly to the interruption. Rainen managed to make himself a giant target by iceballing them magnificently, only to find that being good was in fact a fairly large detriment at that moment in time. With arrows slamming in to him painfully often and for massive damage, he teleported away to what he hoped was safety. This wasn't true, as the master of the cave had been watching, and followed him with more Leukodaemons - they pincushioned him in short order. The rest of the group, unsure where Rainen had gone, continued to fight and managed to prevail. Noting their blue companion wasn't with them, and not wanting to go further without him, they backtracked the way they had came in case he'd teleported directly back to their starting point. Thankfully he had, and they found the remnants of his corpse.
With a stone spike impaling him from the crotch, burrowing up through his chest cavitary and emerging from his upturned mouth, Rainen looked something like a martyr. His hands were impaled spread out almost as if in benediction and his blody had been neatly opened - every organ and bone had been removed with the exception of his skull and jawbone. Ben, finding the demonstration slightly amusing, took the skull and jaw in order to bring Rainen back. The group trekked to Dekkahar near the River Styx to enlist his services and it was done, for a fair price. Rainen was revived and given an encouraging pat on the back, though for the first time in his existence he'd experienced death, and the experience didn't sit especially well with him.
Returning to the cave the group looked inside and Naya, with her incredible trap finding and disabling skills, made the room save to enter. As they did so however they were beset by ropers! Not just any ropers either, but shadow ropers! Primrose quickly succumbed to their shadowy and persistent tentacles due to her age bracket and gender before they were fought off and vanquished. A quick restorative later and she was perfectly functional, if slightly weak. Going further down in to the cavern, the group could see strange colourful glows from odd crystal formations - strange, especially in the remarkably monochrome plane of shadow. Hearing daemons ahead, Rainen pushed past the others, his eyes beginning to glow red, as he unleashed a torrent of actual fire, mildly surprising everyone. Slightly confused himself, Rainen never the less immolated the assembled leukodaemons before they could really do anything.
Progressing to the back of the cavern, they found the statue - a Kolyarut Inevitable manacled with bindings of rust and decay, tending to a pool of water that looked like it had come from the River Styx itself. Tentatively talking to it, as it didn't register as evil, showed that much of it's mouth and throat had eroded away due to drinking the water - the only act that prevented the pool from overflowing. Emptying it completely would end it, but the Inevitable could only drink fast enough to stop it overflowing without killing itself. Naya and crew thought about this briefly, before returning to Dekkahar and asking to borrow some of his vassals to drink the solution, said to be Styx water mixed with the blood of Apollyon himself, since they secreted river water anyway. He didn't mind in the slighest, so Naya brought back as many as she could. True enough they happily drank it all and passed it through their system without any real problems and actually got stronger if anything. As they were led home, Naya offered to take the Inevitable back home to it's own plane after getting the manacles off, which it greatly accepted. It seemed now the only thing left to dismantle was the tower itself, lieutenants aside...
