One by one, the PCs were approached by Norrel and informed that Naya had found a text which might assist them in their research. The book described an artifact, buried deep beneath Londorellen, which could anchor a soul to the material plane; minimizing the risks normally associated with transformations that require the prospective individual to die. It also makes the body mutable, allowing those who wish to transform through physical means, to do so. After reading about the artifact, the party decided it was something they should pursue and began looking for a way into the Verdant Realm.
After discussing amongst themselves for a while, they decided to try to find the ambassador from the Verdant realm and try to negotiate a way in. It took them less than an hour to obtain a meeting with the ambassador, a sour faced elf name Gavron Vras. The meeting didn't go particularly well, mostly due to Lorek's lack of manners, but Miere managed to smooth things out, and convinced the elf to allow them to visit Londorellen as ambassadors from Rook. After pretending to think for a few minutes, the elf agreed, provided they could get Bergstein's approval. The party immediately went to Bergstein, who was ecstatic that the elves were finally opening up and agreed to wholeheartedly to allow the party to represent Rook. Early the next morning, the party (and Naya) were placed on a cart and sent to meet with two representatives from the realm, near the edge of Rook. The two druids look the party over, cast Wind Walk, and began to lead them to the city.
After 8 hours of travel, the druids began to land and coalesce back into solid form. Upon returning to human form, Lorek was immediately overwhelmed by an incredibly powerful illusion aura directly in front of them. After being told of the effect (and watching their guides walk through a solid wall of rock) the party was able to disbelieve the illusion, and saw a the walls of a massive city appear before them. At the front gates they were met by a complement of guards, and a woman dressed in fine clothing. The elf introduced herself as Yiana, and told them she was to be their guide for the remainder of their stay in Londorellen.
Over the next day the party asked Yiana a number of questions about the city and it's government, all of which she was happy to answer. However, when they asked her about the artifact, she appeared to know nothing of it, but offered to put the party in touch with someone who may know more. Rather than take her up on the offer, the party re-examined the book. While the rest of the group was trying to decipher it, Ben uncovered a hidden message which indicated the artifact was likely buried underneath the main council chamber. After a brief chat with Yiana, they convinced her to take them to the council chamber. It took the group less than fifteen minutes to find a hidden arcane button on the underside of the main dais. Activating it revealed a set of stairs leading down into darkness, upon seeing the hole, Yiana excused herself to alert the guard, giving the party a few minutes to scout ahead.
Lorek's wizard eyes revealed that the stairs were cloaked in a shadow-walk effect, which allowed them to travel several miles underground in under five minutes. Following Primrose's suggestion, Lorek placed an Alarm at the base of the stairs, and followed the party into a grand entrance way. Pillars flanked the hallway, stretching up until they disappeared in the darkness above. At the end of the hallway lay a set of stone steps, leading down into a pool of still water. At the bottom of the stairs they found an illusionary wall, which led them into a cavern with a brass pedestal in the center. Tiles carved with arcane runes and sigils covered the pedestal, however when the party drew close, they began to glow slightly and shift. When Miere went up to examine it, the tiles rearranged themselves and created a hand print indentation in the surface of the pedestal. Miere placed his hand in the indentation and fell to the ground as a surge of arcane power swept over him. One by one the rest of the party approached the artifact, and placed their hands in the newly-created indentation. And one by one, they all collapsed under the onslaught of arcane power.
Ben was the first to wake up, at which point he tried to smash the artifact with a warhammer, but made little progress. Upon waking up, Miere immediately used Greater Teleport to get home and check on his family. Lorek and Primrose woke up next, then dusted themselves off and waited for the guard to arrive. Naya woke up last, and left after barely saying a word to the rest of the party. When they arrived at the surface, they were debriefed by an elderly elf, who was quite curious in how they managed to discover the artifact, and what effect, if any it might have on them. In light of the artifact being activated, along with the departure of Miere, the elves opted to cut the tour short, and return the party to Rook.
About a week later, each member of the party received a note which said that Yiana wished to speak with them at the elven embassy in Rook.
