Dozens of invitations when out. Most to various nobles but some lesser number to adventurers who call Rook their home. Mr. McKrakenson, a self made man of wealth, had recently reclaimed a keep in the north and would be hosting a celebration. Given the distance, and the dangers of the wilds, those attending would be travelling in a large caravan.
The day of departure arrived and of those invitations going out to adventurers, seven came. The caravan, roughly 60 strong, began it's two day journey. The journey was largely uneventful those some took the opportunity to make friends. Felix, got chummy with the guards while Leon did what he could to make friends among the nobility.
The travelers arrived and the festivities began.
Luckily adventurers tend to be a perceptive lot and that bird off in the distance... well, it clearly wasn't a bird. It seemed to be some sort of winged humanoid. The creature flew from east to west, the back east before disappearing from view. With a collective shrug, most went about their business. Zartuk however was not satisfied and remained on watch. Felix, went to the guards camp and warned them to be on alert. The festivities continued.
Far to the east one dot appeared. Then another, and another. They got closer and it was clear they were the same humanoids. More and more appeared, ten, twenty, thirty. Some broke off and headed southwest while others came straight for the keep.
The first wave came in way up high. A bombing run it would seem as they dropped rocks from a height of 400 feet. They scattered, diving for the ground, while four huge earth elementals burst from the ground. Nobles, guards, and servants died by the dozens. The adventurers took up arms and defeated the goliaths and then the wing of gargoyles that followed. Finally four others showed up, these with colored skin. The battle was fierce as snowballs were thrown from the air and larger gargoyle fought on the ground. Eventually, the adventurers were victorious. The bodies that surrounded them, together with the knowledge that another group of these things went towards Rook, kept the victory from being jubilant.
