After hearing rumours of farmers and animals going missing in the farmsteads north of Rook, the intrepid heroes were conversing in a tavern when they saw someone staggering through the street looking less than his best. Rushing out to help him, especially as he was crying about missing people and farms, saw the group introduced to his tale of woe - over the last few nights animals had been taken and people had not returned, culminating in a mad rush of frenzied kidnappings where all the remaining workers and animals were stolen away. The man had only remained due to hiding in the barn, a decision he clearly had mixed feelings about due to his cowardice. Exclaiming their desire to help the man, he was given a place to temporarily stay and, though he had no payment, the group took the job regardless.
Traveling north, the experienced trackers in the party identified, surprisingly, the tracks of people dragged around once they reached the farmhouse they'd been directed to. Seeing signs of struggle but no bloodshed, the party continued east in to the forest where the tracks led, only to be ambushed by a large number of armed and armoured ghouls and ghasts who looked like unhealthy farmers! These undead critters largely bounced off everyone aside from Ibahalii who not only was touched in an appropriate place by a sneaking wraith, but then beaten to death when he raced ahead and was surrounded - mainly as no one went to join him. Regardless they fought the ghouls off and retreived poor Ibahalii's corpse, returning quickly to Rook to bring him back to life and mostly back to his full potency.
Returning to the forest as fast as they could, Felix looted all the equipment from the ghouls to ensure the group did receive some renumeration before they headed north to follow the route one fleeing ghast took. Eventually a ruined tower came in to view and they went to scout ahead, quickly revealing an impressively large suit of fancy armour with blue balefire guttering out from within it. With a stomping of boots it rushed forwards and promptly sliced through Marcus and almost knocked him immediately out of the fight. Thankfully Marcus was made of sterner stuff and retreated away, only for everyone else to run really, really far away from the armour. As such it followed the nearest target, Marcus of course, and beat him in to the ground. Realising that he probably needed backup at this point, Felix rushed in and danced around slightly to provoke the thing. As it got ready to swing, a voice from the tower issued a command in the language of the dead. With no hesitation the monster promptly made Marcus very, very dead indeed. Split seconds later and Zartuk's arrows ended it's unlife, several initiative points too late.
Ibahalii rushed in to the tower and saw the caster responsible, a withered man wearing a bird-like mask, and went to rush him only to be repelled with an image of his darkest fear that didn't quite manage to kill him. With the withered man retreating down the stairs and out of sight, Ibahalii regrouped with the others. As Marcus was very dead, his remains were sloshed over Felix's horse and it was told to wait a small distance away to be safe. Girding their loins, the remaining trio edged down the stairs only to be confronted with a darkness that was almost supernaturally... deeper. Whilst they debated this, wraiths charged out of the darkness and in to them! They quickly found they could not hit Zartuk, who retreated regardless, but Ibahalii sttod his ground, his mirror images absorbing the brunt of the attacks. Unfortunately they didn't last long at all, and he fell stricken to the ground, as pale as a wraith! Mere seconds later and Zartuk and felix finished all the wraiths off. Looking at Ibahalii, they noticed he looked pretty messed up and black cloak-like wisps were starting to come out of him, so they filled his corpse with arrows! After it had fully turned it went on a mad rush for Zartuk, whispering dark messages of 'Damn it, you're harder to hit than me!' and 'Why didn't you keep me alive?' but alas, Ibahalii was killed a third time by the arrows from the zen archer.
As they looked forwards in to the darkness, a little unsettled there was now only two of them, the caster from before rose up out of the group clapping at them. Immediately Felix charged and Zartuk shot, only to realise it was just an illusion. What Felix didn't realise was an illusion however was the subsequent phantasm of his greatest fear and he fell to the ground, also dead. Zartuk by this point was able to build several buildings from the bricks he was producing, and he retreated very quickly indeed. using rope to lasso the head of felix's corpse, he tied it to the horse already carrying Marcus' remains and returned to Rook to get them raised if there were enough funds from the armour and weapons they had liberated.
It hadn't gone overly well, as mocking laughter followed Zartuk on the breeze as he trudged home.
