Our five heroes, such as they are, were contacted by a Tiefling named Serash, and offered them a job. House Lorel, having recently worked through the extra-planar unpleasantness caused by the last group of adventurers they hired, was looking to resume preparations for their party. With the status of desert still in flux, Hampton Lorel sent the group on what should have been an incredibly simple mission. Head to Elysium, make contact with a Caydenite temple, and convince them to provide alcohol for the party. Seemed simple enough.
The party hesitantly stepped through the portal, and found themselves in an unnaturally beautiful forest. After wandering the forest for a little while, and attempting to steal the plants, the party eventually emerged on the edge of a vast rolling plain, with a small village in the distance.
Upon reaching the village, the party found it largely populated by petitioners, who were friendly enough, but seemed to be uncomfortable at the presence of a Tiefling. The party continued on to the tavern; upon entering, Adraste noticed a striking similarity between the layout of the tavern, and one she had entered on a previous adventure. The patrons were mostly petitioners, with several low ranking Azatas and Cassisians mixed in. They seemed friendly enough, but once again, appeared to be uncomfortable with the presence of a Tiefling. Neigh had elected to stay outside and admire the celestial horses wandering around the front of the bar.
Dryth quickly went up to the bar introduced himself to the bartender, a half-celestial named Gharn, and attempted to assure them he had no ill intentions. The bartender stared the tiefling down for a few seconds, then laughed, handed him a beer, and told off one of the other patrons that had been glaring at him. Dryth quickly offered to buy the Azata a beer, and brought it over to her.
The rest of the party were all offered large mugs of ale, which all of them, except Adraste, accepted. The ale better than anything any of the party had ever tasted, and they quickly ordered several more upon finishing their first mug. Neigh paused long enough to take a barrel out to Diane and the other horses, who all seemed appreciative of his efforts.
After an hour of drinking, dancing, and singing, Adraste managed to flag down the bartender and call the rest of her party over. After talking to Gharn, they learned that, following the incident with the church of Shelyn, the Hampton Lorel and his associates had been blacklisted in the upper planes. None of the churches allied with Shelyn's were to have any dealings with them.
The party thought about this for a while, finally, Dryth shakily mentioned that he was aware the Caydenites valued drunken dares and contests more than any political squabbling; so the party challenged him to a drinking contest for the alcohol. After thinking for a moment, the bartender laid out a series of 5 challenges:
1. Lisa needed to beat their current hide and seek champion at hide and seek. Which she did when the other goblin's head got stuck when he tried to climb up the chimney.
2. Dryth needed to break 4 glass bottles faster than one of the Azata's could. Surprising everyone, he managed to break all 4 with a single magic missile, handily winning.
3. Ibahalii had to beat him in a wrestling match. The match went back and forth for a few rounds, but Ibahalii managed to pull out ahead, barely squeaking out a win.
4. Neigh and Diane needed to win a race against him. The race was fast and brutal, both horses sprinted at top speed, both riders were slinging spells, but neither could gain a significant advantage. Finally, in the home stretch, Diane grabbed a hold of the other horse and dragged him to the ground, launching both riders. Neigh transformed into a pony in mid-air and galloped off towards the finish line, while Gharn's cloak turned into a pair of wings and carried him into the air. The two men raced towards the finish line, but Neigh managed to pull a bit ahead and won in what would be a photo finish, if photography had been invented yet.
5. Adraste needed to win a drinking contest. Adraste and Gharn both got very, very drunk; but eventually her fast fingers and monastic training prevailed.
After securing the aid of the the Caydenites, the party celebrated by drinking more! They awoke early the next morning, and headed back to Cloud City.
