Hot on the heels of the random undead attack in the Central Markets, a second set of adventurers came upon the city watch trying to get control of the area and figure out what had occurred before their arrival. The group likewise was trying to figure out what all the commotion was about while the guards moved out the bodies left by the earlier encounters, when they heard a commotion coming from inside the warehouse.
Inside the warehouse, Milo and Soran had just completed their escape, stumbling through the hole in the wall and almost straight into Commander Bergstein who was busy discussing the situation with a squad of guardsmen that were getting ready to venture down into the tunnel. The pair began relaying what had happened, while the adventurers out in the road headed in to see what was going on. After they had completed their story, Bergstein summoned one of the Guard's clerics to tend their injuries and began issuing orders for the squad that was standing by to head down. Unwilling to accept defeat and the loss of their comrades, Soran and Milo both volunteered to accompany the guards down.
The enlarged party headed once more into the tunnels, traveling back down cautiously the group encountered a large group of the blood men, ooze swarms, and two of the bloody skeletons the group had previously encountered. The skeletons took up positions at the back and sent the horde of lesser undead forward, firing with bows they'd been re equipped with, but the judicious application of a fireball dealt with the lesser creatures in short order and the skeletons fell soon after.
Continuing on the group managed to get to the area of the tunnel where the fateful encounter occurred. Pausing to prep themselves for what was to come, they could hear something making dragging noises up ahead in the dark. After a few seconds another horde of blood men can flying out of the darkness, with something firing arrows from out of sight. Some of the adventurers were able to hear someone cast and invisibilty spell but the group was too busy dealing with the charge to do anything about it. After a few rounds of combat the blood knight appeared, exploding out of invisibility and savaging Lisa who had taken up position out in front of the group. The Guards rushed in, surrounding the creature but were unable to make much headway until the rest of the lesser undead were dealt with. With the aid of a trip attack from Faust and a flurry of bows from Zartuk the group was able to drive the Blood Knight to the ground and pound him until the force animating the creature broke leaving a pile of gory equipment in the middle of a glore splattered and badly poisoned party. Taking time to tend the poisoned amongst them and tend their wounds, the group continued on to the guard station and began their exploration.
In side the found the station unoccupied, most of the furnishings and contents destroyed, either by age or force, and almost universally covered in old blood. The duty sergeants desk contained a log book that was mostly destroyed, but scanning through what they could get from it, the group was able to determine that there were three officers assigned to the station; Emilio Fantas the Station Commander, Geoffrey Mikel the Guard Captain, and Sasha Grigor the Guard Cleric as well as 12 Guards of various lower ranks below them. The also were able to recover a blood stained journal from the commander's room with the following entries still legible inside of it -
4 Winterfest 68 ARW: "The alarms were triggered today. Sasha and I activated the wards per the contingency plan, some civilians have been sealed in with us but we should be able to open the gates soon."
11 Fireseek 68 ARW: "People have started to turn, I've issued orders to the men to put down the survivors before they can infect the city. We haven't been able to deactivate the wards."
12 Wakening 68 ARW: "The gates are still sealed. They've forgotten us."
The also managed to recover a lockbox from the duty officer's desk that had the station's payroll and petty cash, and cleared out what was left of the armory before heading out to being transporting their loot and the bodies of the previous group to make the attempt back to the surface.
