With Fuerchar contacting Naya, Lorek and Ben about potential work, and primrose being with Lorek at the time, the quartet went to meet the illithid fugitive residing within Rook. He explained that he wanted to try and reestablish contact with an old colleague, Kreuvathal who had similarly worked to increase his own power and free himself from the Illithid collective mind. However, Fuerchar had no real idea of whether Kreuvathal was still alive, is custory, at large or some other state of being, so wished for confirmation and if practical and possible, bringing the entity to Rook. The location to check was a city a week's travel from Orashar, also of the Shar union of city states - Absolshar, a city under martial law with a sizable contingent of elves. After asking for more job details and getting several questions answered, Naya and friends headed out to the portal. As they left the building they bumped in to Nicoroth, who had heard only a few rumours about Orashar but who was more than happy to accompany the party due to the potential issues access to Orashar caused both Rook and Cloud City.
Going through the portal, Nicoroth quickly stopped off at Orashar to buy desert clothing and noticed pretty much everyone treated him incredibly favorably. Not giving it much mind he returned to the group and they set off, quickly bumping in to a rather impressively big desert giant by the name of Gokk who was more than happy to warn them of the dangers of underground dwarves kidnapping people and slaving them in the cover of night. In return for his help and warnings Naya crafted an exquisite letter of referral for the giant who was interested in checking out the portal that led to somewhere he hadn't travelled before. Spying their target location off in the distance, the group quickly teleported there and saved themselves an excellent amount of time. Not wanting to travel during the high heat of the day, everyone took refuge and rested in Lorek's conjured shelter, setting off at first light the next day to reach the city in good time before it got too hot and also avoiding the nocturnal dwarven predation.
Once they got to the city there was a clear presence of drow, aided in part by the dark clouds that gathered over the city and didn't move, keeping it all under shade and staving off the bright light of day. Entry was freely permitted so long as they were biologically 'tagged' with a small spider egg in the meat of their palms as a form of permission token. Once that was calmly accepted by everyone they were escorted inside by their own request to meet up with some city officials. Once there, Ben proceeded to talk to drow about what had been going down in Orashar and the main purposes for why they had turned up, a series of conversational facts that mildly horrified Naya for the ramifications of such revelations gifted to a highly militarized city. The drow dignitary who came down to speak to the group was remarkably happy to hear of the power strugges in Orashar, since joining the alliance seemed to have been done partly out of intimidation and it seemed like the main reason for such tactics had in fact been consumed. So happy was the drow Kallos with this fact that he readily escorted them to meet Kreuvathal, who turned out to be one of the ruling council.
What greeted them from a sarcophagus was a large mass of tiny red grubs, each sporting little tendrils like those on the Psionidari - almost like a mass of infectious and outbreak-ready illithid spawn. It greeted them is good spirits as it formed up in to the large robed semblance of a 'man' in the loosest sense and enquired about how his old friend Fuerchar was. Naya was rapidly getting more and more worried as Norrel told her the entity was overwhelmingly evil and she recognised a combined religious symbol of Lolth and Vecna around the thing's neck. Pleasantries were exchanged and the 'man' put a part of himself in a small carryable chest for the group to take back to Rook to reestablish contact with his friend. With their purpose revealed and accepted, they were all freely allowed out of the city with no reservations from the guards, had the tracking eggs removed and left to teleport to the portal.
Once there a debate broke out - Naya had no inclination to bring such dangerous cargo to Rook and relieved Ben of the case, after he'd made a few extracts with it on the floor, to put it in to an extra-dimensional space. Contacting Ganderlay for the first time in a long while they asked how to deal with it. Ganderlay essentially flipped, calling them out on dealing with such creatures and brining an Illithid in to Rook and recommended purging with a lot of fire. Lots of fire indeed. As such Lorek reduced the box and the worms inside it to cinders, as well as clearing out Naya's bag with yet more fire to kill those worms who had escaped, especially as the box had little holes drilled in for that very purpose. Ben was somewhat sour about all of this, as they'd just gone against the very job they'd been hired to do but he folded to the group pressure and left them at that point.
Returning to Fuerchar, Naya explained that his old friend was already dead and apologised for the lack of more useful information though he was quite sanguine about the whole thing and paid everyone regardless. Once they had left, Ben met up with him also and recounted a slightly different set of events, receiving his payment and something else slightly more intangible. The implicit trust of an Illithid....
