The adventurers each received a letter, bearing the seal of House Radomil, inviting them to an auspicious ceremony and the launching of a ship. The letter included tickets and a guarantee they would be compensated for their time. The ceremony would take place at a mysterious tower that was recently constructed in the Northern Trade District.
Upon arriving, the adventurers found Lord Radomil atop the 10 story tower. He made a grand speech about the joining of two people in a grand neighborly gesture of open trade. The clouds in the sky were suddenly parted at the close of Radomil’s speech and a galleon sized airship soared up to the tower. Cries of terror and disbelief rushed over Rook as the ship approached but the town guard seemed well informed enough to not attack the vessel.
The Captain of the ship departed, standing next to Radomil. He introduced his ship as the finest vessel of his Shipwright company and stated that they would be departing for Mount Possible in three days time before returning to his ship. Radomil thanked the people and departed as cargo began to be unloaded from the ship.
Rainen and Naya disappeared from sight as they turned invisible and teleported up to the ship deck and began to investigate. Naya seeming particularly interested in the inner workings of the engine. They proceeded unheeded along the cabins of the ship before teleporting once more into a guarded storage room. The moment they entered an alarm sounded, they heard a shout, and teleported out, teleporting and casting various spells of invisibility, before ducking down an alleyway. Even with their evasion they saw a few gnome guards chasing after their trail and heading off down the road.
A few days later, the group arrived at the tower which was now crowded with people scrambling to get onto the floating wonder. They were stopped briefly the human guard not sure the large Samael and Capitalist. Once capitalist shrank down to a clone of Miere they were allowed on board after being told capitalist would have to stay on the top deck.
The group began to intermingle with the other passengers, Miere heading off to their designated cabin to get a nice bit of quiet. Capitalist noticed a quiet clanking noise of clockwork next to their cabin but dismissed it. Rainen, after over hearing a bard arguing with a guard about being paid what he was promised, moved to the bar on the uppermost deck and offered his services for a much cheaper price.
Naya decided to grab a drink and head up to the other side of the uppermost deck and enjoy the view as the ship began to move through clouds, like a ship over waves. As she walked up the stairs she noticed a nervous looking young gnome pouring over what appeared to be navigational charts. She sat down at his table, despite his stumbling that he wanted to be left alone, and took note of markings on the map that indicated a time and location half way over the bay. Something that Naya had heard rumbling in the tavern was a habit of pirates planning a heisting.
Naya went down to their designated cabin to discuss this information with the rest of the party when she heard the same ticking, placing her ear to the wall it sounded like a large clock in the next room. She placed her gloves against the wall, which allowed her to see through the wall. A large sphere like device was planted in the middle of the room ticking loudly and the second she saw it she knew exactly what it was, a bomb.
Upon hearing this information Rainen ran up to the guard by the cockpit, still being berated by the bard he took business from, trying to complain about the ticking noise. After being brushed off he went downstairs to speak to the guard, overlooking the storage area that Rainen had attempted to break into a few days ago. The guard, not wanting to leave his post, but also a little on edge from the incident decided to write Rainen a note to take to the guard captain on the ship.
After Rainen returned with the guard Naya, who had managed to pick the lock to the master suit with the bomb in it, shouted that there was a bomb causing them to rush over. Upon further inspection they saw that it was on a pressure plate and when they attempted to teleport the device off nothing happened as the gnomes had dimensionally locked the ship after the incident a few days prior. Rainen, hearing another ticking as he transferred down the hall of cabins opened the cabin and saw another bomb, a duplicate of the other. It was time to evacuate the ship.
The rest of the group began to help abandon the ship and load the passengers onto the few lifeboats that the ship had. Passengers climbing onto Capitalist as he transformed back into his large form and took flight. Suddenly, the ship lurched forward and began to dive down towards the ocean below. Primrose swung open the cockpit door to find the captain and first mate wrestling over the controls, she put the first mate to sleep and paused to see what the captain would do. He immediately turned to the controls and struggled with them shouting that they were locked.
Naya had managed to disarm the first bomb and moved to the second when a guard burst from the rear of the ship shouting about another bomb. As Naya was disarming the second bomb she heard the young gnome shout and turned just in time to see the ship’s navigator reaching for the uncased bomb to prematurely detonate it. She barely had time to catch his arm and finish disarming the bomb.
She put an end to the gnome quickly and, with the help Rainen, dashed past the young gnome into the back room stumbling upon a goggled, soot covered gnome heading towards the back of the ship. He wedged himself between the boxes of the crowded cargo hold. Nay followed and tumbled past him going as fast as he could for the bomb with just seconds to spare before the time on the map. Pressed against the back of the ship she pushed and popped the case of quickly, there was no time left Norrel flew over the boxes and into the bomb to disarm it.
There was a loud explosion as the back side of the ship, erupting into the engine room and sending Naya and the unconscious Norrel into the crisp air, miles above the bay. Lorek, hovering nearby, cast a feather’s fall on Naya and she caught Norrel before he fell out of her grasp. The party and all 50 passengers, plus a few of the guards, drifted down to the cold waters of the bay where the lifeboats had landed.
The giant airboat crashed into the sea staying barely afloat by the balloon on top but slowly sinking into the dark waters. A few miles off a ship with black sails began bearing down on them.
