I stop into the Plow for the first time in what feels like a year. It seems a bit cleaner than I remember, a lot cleaner actually. Still a quick scan of the room tells me none of the people I know are around so it looks like I'll have to wait for a while.
Duade notices me as I make my way over to the bar, "Faelyn long time no see."
I give him a nod by way of hello and place an order then take a deep get into the real meat of what I'm here for. "Hey Duade, I'm working on investigating the disappearances I think I might have stumbled onto a few good clues and I wanted to get work on a plan. From what I can gather it looks like someone is going around Rook with an arcane sight spell up to track who they strike. Also the guard are going to be beyond useless dealing with this." I pause for a moment to take a few sips while I think about the guard, I occasionally have a few drinks with Bergstein, hes even been over for dinner and met my wife. If he is stonewalling me here it has to be big.
"If I had the Falcon Crest grounds fixed up yet I would offer people space to hide there but for now I'm thinking we need to get organizing a buddy system for all the adventurers. The group is only disappearing the weakest casters, killing the stronger ones outright, that makes me think they are trying to be cautious and keep details about them scarce so I think if we can get people moving in groups they may hold off attacking and tipping their hand. I would offer people safe space at Falcon Crest but the restorations are still ongoing. Anyways everything in the adventuring community moves through here at some point so I guess you might be the best person we have to get things organized."
From there I sip more whisky and wait for his reply.

Urist returns to the Plow as he does every day. Checks the job board and finds nothing of interest.
While he finishes his drink, Urist gets a feel for the general conversation. Seems the topic of the missing adventurers is still on everybody's mind. This strikes Urist as odd, as the topic of the Plow typically changes by the hour, yet here it has persisted for nearly a week.
Though Urist has little interest in the topic, he inquires to Big Duade if he has the inside track on any jobs related to the issues. Perhaps new openings because the previous adventurer is now MIA, bodyguard duties, increased security at any of the many crafting, casting, and magical establishments in Rook. Anything really. While Urist may not have a large concern for the adventurers or himself, he is eager to try to find an opportunity to prove himself (and if he makes a bit of coin, all the better).

Drakovan invisibly sneaks into the adventurer's room of the Golden Plow when he sees none are present within. He leaves a scrap of paper tacked onto the board, with the words "They are seeking to destroy us, I shall hunt them." written in common.

Wulfgrim and Signy walk up the lawn of his school as the first light of day breaks over the horizon and Rook starts to come back to life. Of late he has been returning later and later as his frustration at lack of leads has worn on his mind. His students come to him to learn how to use their gifts and it was always his intention to give them a safe place to live and study. The horrendous murders on campus of the 6 young people who came to apply have sent a shock of shock of fear through the students; and every other day Wulf has a concerned parent or guardian in his offices asking him to assure their children's safety. For the last while he has been trying to set the matter to rest himself. Contacting other adventurers, and notable spellcasters to try to find any leads, as well as patrolling the streets of Rook with Signy looking for the blue-eyed Drow that was seen committing the murders and vanishing, yet since their disappearance he hasn't turned up any clues that have paid off.
Returning to his office Wulfgrim leans over his desk and pens a brief letter...
Mr. Klerrin
I am writing to you regarding a matter of great seriousness. Doubtless you are aware of the attacks on spellcasters across Rook, and I expect you have heard of the murder of 6 young prospective students on the grounds of my school in the Hearth District. I have been conducting my own investigations into the perpetrator but have not found anything conclusive. If the issue of these attacks are of concern to you and you are looking into them yourself I would ask if we might pool our resources to ensure this person pays for their actions before any more people are hurt. And if you turn up any leads and need to put together a task force I would ask you consider me, I will make sure heads roll for this.
Awaiting your reply,
Wulfgrim Alrik
Wulfgrim whistled loudly and by the time he had rolled and sealed the letter a hawk had alighted at the window. Fastening the letter to its leg Wulfgrim growled "To Miere" and watched as the bird took to the air and made its way over the waking city.

Receiving the letter in his garden, Miere gives it a quick read over and considers the implications of the murders within school grounds. With a sigh he gets up and stretches, filling out the seemingly 'deflated' clothing as mantises stream from the surroundings to coalesce with his central mass. Reaching a hand down, he waits for a few moments for Venture to skitter aboard, raising the little scorpion to his face and depositing it within his head. Taking a few moments to let his face settle in to the rough approximation of his former visage, he mutters a few quick words before flying towards Wulfgrim's school.
Not overly long after the hawk departed Wulgrim's office, Miere politely knocks on the window frame from outside, the letter in his other hand. "You asked for my assistance, I believe?" Crossing his arms with a slightly resigned smile, Miere tilts his head as he regards Wulfgrim. "I did explain after the fact the consequences of asking me to 'plug' your school, as you so asked. I assume then that your protections or guards were surprised?"

Wulfgrim looks grim as he hears Miere out "We should have been more prepared" He growls "The only guards we have are the teaching staff, Signy, and me. The best weve got for magical defences is one old half blind druid, and the best guard we have is the bear.... I'm going to fix that. And I appreciate the advertisement you have made for us. Its help keep students trickling in every so often. Id like to make sure that when they get here they have a safe place to study, and for the boarding students to live. But with the issue with this attacker the guardians of the students are coming to me and demanding assurances. I intend to give them just that by separating the murders head from their shoulders. What i've been working off was an eye witness of the attack.. you must have read about it in the Times? This "blue-eyed Drow" I'm not sure what it is they are thinking but whatever it is I want to stop it. Have you been looking into the matter? As a prominent figure in Rook and a known spellcaster I figured it would be on your mind at the least."

Miere will shrug. "I must admit, I generally leave occurrences in Rook to... well, Rook ultimately. As you may know I reside in a variety of demiplanes of my own creation. After some of the things I've seen, perspective tends to shift somewhat. I would have thought that the element of risk to your students would weed out the weaker ones, as uncouth as that sounds? I've known several druids who certainly thought in that manner."
Ponding for a few moments, Miere will eventually shrug. "I confess the briefest of descriptions doesn't aid me much in locating a single drow for you I'm afraid. Oriar has quite a few drow with blue eyes, it's not the most uncommon colour as it's close in the spectrum to violet and, once introduced to a lineage, tends to become more common. Did you have anything else to go on, such as the name of the witness the paper interviewed?"

Folding his arms in front of his check Wulfgrim nods as he listens; walking to the window he looks out across the grounds and considers his reply "Yeah, Ive known people, -been trained by people of that opinion.. I guess I'm going soft because for these kids I dont want to give them that survival of the fittest shit. If I can make them strong survivors, and not have to put them through the types of hardships I had.. I want that for them.."
"and nah the paper didnt name a name... But now that you mention it that's one more place for me to look. I think I'll start by seeing if I can get into the Times to talk the the columnist who wrote the piece. Thank you"

Miere will shrug. "No need to thank me, I've only really been a sounding board. If you need any further help once you track down the witness, by all means ask. I generally have a reasonable amount of free time."
After a few quiet moments Miere will grin at Wulgrim. "You know, I never had to deal with any of that survival of the fittest ideology either, but I certainly worked on my survival skills. It's done well for me, so I wish you luck in imparting that to your students. For now, I'll take my leave. Take care Wulfgrim, and please feel free to stay in touch." Turning, Miere will start drifting towards the city, flickering out of view several seconds after moving away.

As Miere lifts off Wulfgrim adds "And Miere, I don't know a whole lot about you and so I dont want to talk about your life when I dont get it. But it sounds to me like investing yourself only in "demiplanes of your own creation" could get a little isolating. Im not sure what you really mean by your perspective having shifted, but I think you might spend too might time looking out from your flying construct building thing. Try coming down to earth. Have you ever been hunting? I mean real hunting? You and Nature together? I sometimes feel myself shifting.. living here in Rook, with all the weird stuff.. like men with bugs for a face, and plots of murder in the streets.. When I start to forget what it is I am in this universe I go out and hunt. It puts me back in my place you know?"

Miere will pause after Wulfgrim speaks and turn back towards him, a thoughtful look unseen on his invisible face. "The thought had occurred to get closer to nature, yes. It's partly the reason I made my gardens. A hat isn't always the best company, though I do enjoy spending time with my family. The problem is that as known as I am, my family is a much easier target than me. That would be why I'm somewhat isolated. It's safer for them."
"Shaking his head slightly in annoyance, Miere continues. "I appreciate the thought Wulfgrim, as well as the consideration. Thank you, and I do mean that. You're the first person I've mentioned my family to in a long while. You take care of your students, and call me if needed. I'll come to help." With that said, Miere continues towards his gardens in the centre of Rook.

Joy, while on another long stroll through the knowledge district, recalls that there was a commotion about whether or not adventurers were more beneficial than harmful to the people of Rook. The last time she had taken a job about this was a quite a few months back but hasn't bothered to see the results of it in the eyes of who distributes news, and, in turn, the public. "Perhaps I could scour the written records in the morning." She thinks to herself.
