Norran can be found at all times a day in his lab, if you wish to converse with him just use the travel stone he gave you and after a minute casting time it will bring you to his sanctum.
Wesley is also available, Tark to if you wish to speak to a toddler level intellect.
Norran is currently Friendly to the party of the "Artificers Tomb" session.

On one of the days Miere visits Norran's library, he's turn to the man with a smile and ask, "So Norran, which methods of achieving immortality, or at least an incredibly long lifespan, do you know about or have research on here? As I mentioned it's quite a goal I have set for myself, so it'd be nice to hear of the methods available."

Lorek will also attempt to catch Norran privately, inquiring, "You mentioned that you wouldn't mind if I took a look at the Grisgols core? I'm rather interested in the particulars."

"Couple of books of Black Magic towards the back of the library, the Grisgol's power source is one way, I could always teach you how to become like me and my sons (He pounds his chest with a fist as if showing you how sturdy he is), Take your pick friend." "I do owe you after all" he smiles.

Norran look's quite excited to show you his creation, As you examine he gives a long winded talk on the art of soul binding and construct crafting. Norran tell's you that the Music box is the phylactery of Xalyth's brother. He then orders the grisgol to lie still and tears its ribcage made of wands out of its chest. Lorek looks slightly alarmed, Norran chuckles "Don't worry, it will heal when I order it to, take your time." Lorek get's as much time as he wishes to study the phylactery, and Norran brings a couple tomes on necromancy that have relevant passages. *Mechanical* Lorek has gone one step closer to discovering the methods of becoming a lich, you may ask 7 questions (at once) as if using a commune spell. Answers will be longer than yes or no as this is the result of hard research on your time and not intervention of a god.

"I do owe you after all" he smiles. Thinking on it for a moment, Miere looks around the room. "I think I'll opt for the black magic option. I'd rather not become undead as the concept doesn't really feel like my forte to be honest. As for reconstructing myself via your help that is immensely tempting and a fantastic option, though for now I'll explore the magic first. Fits more with my current lifestyle choices I feel." Turning towards the back of the library, Miere eyed the books there. "Don't suppose you have any book titles for reference, or should I just start sifting through them?"

"An interesting read is the "Tale of Iricko", a fascinating story about a Malicious sorcerers path to immortality."
Norran smiles again,
"and reconstruction is always on the table!"

Nodding with a smile, Miere wanders over to the indicated area and then starts looking for the book. Presuming he can find it, he'll sit and read the entire thing in as much detail as he can whilst making notes on anything feasible he may be able to try himself back at the labs.

Naya will approach Norran when he's not busy, dark circles under her eyes indicate she hasn't slept in a few days. After catching the man's attention, she'll call him over to a table, which she's covered in notes, technical schematics, and cracked pipes of various materials. "I've been working on this for," she thinks for a second, "nearly eighteen months at this point." She gestures to one of the pipes, "I've got the propellent completely sorted out, but in order to make it work, I need an alloy which is light enough to transport, strong enough to withstand intense bursts of heat and pressure without cracking, and cheap enough to mass produce. I've done the math, but metallurgy isn't one of my areas of expertise."

The tale is an expertly written story, to those with no magical talent, it would merely be a tragic tale of a man's descent into madness and evil seeking to bring back his family and eventually denying death.
To those with considerable training in matters of spells and ritual, it reveals much more...
Detailed notes and procedures are hidden in the passages, and the final page contains a piece of a ritual.
Same as lorek above, ask your questions.

Same as lorek above, ask your questions. Taking detailed notes and sketching the pictures as best he can, Miere sifts through the text and tries to make more sense of it. 1) What does it seem like the Tragic Man became in order to stave off death? A: The book ends with nothing but a vague description of something wriggling under robes. 2) What is the main catalyst for the change to take place? A: Missing from the text 3) Which spells or specific knowledge would be required? A: More ritual than casting, you are aware that heavy amounts of transmutation and Necromancy are involved. 4) Would it be possible to tailor the ritual to achieve a certain aesthetic or style? A: Possible, but would require a change in method of death for the different rebirth. 5) What further research would help to discern further ritual? A: More texts involving this Sorceror 6) What sacrifices would be needed to be made to achieve any supposed transformation? A: The caster's life 7) Who aside from Norran would be good to ask concerning this knowledge? A: Iricko

Norran looks concerned, "You really should get some sleep my dear, lack of it can be lethal for those of you physiology" He examines the material present, "A form of steel might do the trick, though it would have to stronger and lighter than most current smiths can produce. also I see you lack a triggering mechanism. If you don't mind, I would happily take some time to look through this and offer suggestions" If you leave the materials with Norran for 1 week of Downtime, he will have some answers.

After collating his notes, Miere looks at the conclusions he's drawn with a thoughtful expression. To be sure he sifts through the book a couple more times, making sure what he's noted is correct and of sufficient detail even though it'd be likely he could just read it again. Standing up, he walks over to Norran.
"That book was indeed facinating and does sound somewhat... acceptable. I'm mainly missing some of the more complete notes. Do you happen to have any other material mentioning him or his works? Or, I don't suppose you know if Iricko is still around, or where he may be? I'd dearly love to speak to him."

"I do not know if the man from the tale still exists, or if he ever did. It is possible that Iricko was a false name for the book. I have no more of his works im sorry, but atleast now you know what to look for."
Norran smiles, and asks Miere if he would like some tea.

Nodding happily, Miere accepts the tea and will happily sit down and chat with Norran about Norran's own work for the rest of the day should he wish. Miere now had a name to go for, so the next step was to search the libraries he had, followed by those in Rook. Possibly those of Ganderlay, perhaps, or those in Cloud City....

"I already figured that out, kinda; currently using a slow-burning match to trigger it, but," she gestures to the schematic, "I've been experimenting with igniting the powder using a spring loaded flint, but that's still largely experimental."

Primrose will show up rather late in the night, though the inhabitants of this structure may not notice. Primrose will edge over towards Norran, staying silent until he finally notices her.
"You mentioned immortality. Immortality brought through magical means? Would your library happen to have any books on a creature known as a 'Worm that Walks?' Twice now I've encountered them, and twice now there has been a magical source so overwhelmingly powerful I fled. I'd like to know what makes them tick."

Looking up at Primrose, Miere will raise a hand in greeting. "Hi Primrose. I've been here a while actually, researching along the same lines. Worm that walks eh?"
Holding out the book to her, Miere smiles. "This is what you're looking for I think. Want to share notes after you go through it?"

Looking quite serious, albeit smiling, Miere states, "I'm not keen on being mortal to be honest, so living forever is an attractive option. Undead isn't an attractive choice, and I'm fairly sure such a form can be attained without necessarily being evil."
Going through his notes, Miere then looks up to Primrose. "I have a fair interest in the protean and malleable as you may guess. With any luck magically infused worms won't be the only form such a transformation can take. Void worms maybe? They're the right size and suitably colourful."

Norran will mutter "Fascinating" and examine the mechanism's prepared. "Have you considered a larger cylinder? A larger and heavy barrel wouldn't be as mobile but could be effective and easier to produce with common metallurgy. I understand the appeal of a portable device such as this, but it may be out of reach for a long time. Perhaps a working and effective model would ignite, pardon the pun, enough interest in your project among other academics to continue research. The spring loaded mechanism seems quite complex and would be perfect if we could adapt this technology to a more personal device. But if a prototype of much larger size was created it would be impractical compared to a simple match." OOC: If you spend a couple days discussing with Norran, you will get the idea for a Large projectile weapon that would be devastating against stationary targets. Of course, half the journey is building a working version of the thing.

((Presumably when there aren't other PCs around))
Ben will approach Norran, a bit disheveled. "I thank ye kindly fer the book, it's been quite...revealin' to me. It's why I'm here now. Unfortunately, I've learned at least one of its myths be true, but it don't describe the dragon much from the story. We was recently in a swamp, y'see, and it turned out there was a pretty big and magicky tree out there, with a nymph in it. Long story short, the nymph picked up the tree and moved elsewhere, and there was a still-alive critter under, or perhaps I should say un-alive? It was a draco-lich by the name of Gahartherakkitorah, 'n' he was pretty big. If ya got anything about that name in your books or your head you wouldn't mind divulgin', the city of Rook could prob'ly use it."
((If you want to discuss the results of this query with the GM that made it, that person would be Geck))
