Fenix: 3 Influence.
Pab: 3 Influence.
Akane: 3 Influence.
Kami: 3 Influence.
2 Influence base, +1 for frankly pissing the drow leader off enough to earn the local enclave some respite from raiding.
As the group variously encroached upon each other in a tavern with some hesitant introductions for those not yet acquainted, a mortuary cult attendant entered the building. Spotting the eclectic group, he enquired if they were mercenaries for hire. After some doubt at Akane's profession, he handed them a map and explained that there were raids coming from below, enslaving some of the members of a community he was a part of. It was paid work which in itself convinced most to go help, though one of the more stringent mercenaries quietly took his leave after carefully inspecting his fellows and sensing the aura of evil around Talon. Even so five was a strong number of colleagues, and they quickly made their way down into the depths. Though much of the journey was largely uneventful and simply dark, eventually several in the group noticed it was getting unnaturally cold. With snow being practically unheard of in the caverns of echoes, the group came to a stop when they saw a small snowdrift. They variously poked it from afar, threw items at it and finally Pab went to lift great chunks of it into the air. Finally having enough, the snow-like serpentine being resting within the drift slithered forwards rapidly to attack and drive off those harassing it. As the group swiftly came to realize, it was largely impervious to most normal forms of damage with the exception of some impressively heavy shots from Kami. Very quickly they found that not only did fire work to dinish the creature in a sense, it also caused it to split. Several alchemists fire later and a whole small host of the beings were assailing those closest, most notably Talon who spent a not inconsiderable time as a barely alive suffocating meat popsicle before he was helpfully mildly set on fire by his allies.
With the demise of whatever the creature was, and with the temperature returning back to normal, the group continued on for a couple more uneventful hours. It wasn't until a couple noticed some of the luminous lichen on a nearby cavern wall was arranged strangely that they stopped. Talon, investigating with his gloves, found that the sign read 'Soon'. As the group mused on the meaning of this, the ambush was sprung! A trio of Drow, clearly a well trained raiding party, assailed the group from all sides and Talon, already weak from the intense snow from earlier, fell to a weaking poison upon a drow blade. The drow slowly gained an advantage, leveraging their superior skill and agility to maintain a close range with the party, harassing them and whittling them down for little to no repercussion. Pab, singled out for being slightly further away from the dense mass of adventurers and thus easier to surround, slowly made his way to try and rejoin to group, getting throat punched and knocked out by the female drow leader even as he thought himself safe since she'd dropped her weapon thanks to Fenix's magic. With one of their number down the advantage began to tell. Though one of the two male drow was eventually taken down, the sheer insistent injuries amassing on everyone else was enough to dissuade them from chancing too much. Fenix, ever prudent, ran away really fast, swiftly followed by Kami, who was already pushing herself past a normal person's limits, then Kami's wolf who carried the unconscious Akane in its mouth. Utterly incensed that after all that effort to take them down the adventurers still managed to largely escape, the drow leader took out her rage on the paralyzed Talon and executed him, carving up his face and body in multiple acts of mutilation. Once done, the surviving drow carried their ally away, inadvertently leaving Pab unconscious in the corner. The rest of the party returned once the coast was clear, rescuing Pab and hauling Talon's desecrated remains to the mortuary cult who were only too happy to 'correct' the issue of his death. With the drow moving to another hunting ground to avoid the irritation of facing the group again it was counted as a win and the settlement happily paid their dues to the group.
