The party, while hanging out in the Golden Plow, was approached by a well dressed looking for work. He explained that he owned a small mine and that it had been under increasing harassment and recently several workers had been killed. The party quickly agreed and left with the man to go to the mine which he claimed was only a few hours away. He made incesent small talk asking each member of the party about there lives and other small day to day things. Finally the party gained a reprieve from the barrage of words as the carriagearrived at the mines.
Seeing a large number of miners standing around the owner explained they refused to enter until the kobolds were gotten rid of. After asking some questions the party learned the kobolds were probably from deeper into the mines and had taken alive several of the miners. The party quickly managed to track the caves the kobolds were entering from and after roughly an hour of travel they quickly noticed a large put trap blocking off the entire passageway. The party decided to go back and borrow a ladder which they lay across the pit to ease the crossing. However once they got to the other side a rune flared and exploded injuring Thraum and almost sending Balioch into the pit behind him.
Shortly after navigating the dangers of the pit trap the party found themselves ambushed by a group of kobolds. Despite being better trained and better equipped the party struggled to hit and after several rounds things became more dangerous as a sorcerous kobold stepped forth and despite a valiant effort by Yasuki it survived just long enough to cast a single color spray dropping both Thraum amd Yazuki to the ground. One of the kobolds made motion to kill Yazuki but was ordered to instead attack the still standing Balioch who shrugged off the blows and strode forward to single handedly finish off the remaining enemies.
A quick search revealed a nearby tunnel that several of the kobolds lived in where letters were discovered that revealed an insidious plot to kill a newer adventurer and replace him as part of a longer term plan. Deciding the main kobold warren farther in would be to much to deal with for now they decided to instead deal with their treacherous employer. The party made a plane to pretend Yazuki had been captured and that the party had been forced to abandon him. Despite a truly appalling lack of ability to tell a good lie the party was saved by the mans inability see one. Unfortunately the man was not a man, as they were soon to learn, he was a doppelganger and his detect thoughts revealed to him their plan. As he attempted to back away Balioch charged forward and attempted to grab him beginning a fight that the party came perilously close to losing as they underestimated the mans monstrous nature. Despite taking out Yazuki and Balioch he was unable to seal the deal and was cleaved into two pieces by Thraum.
Injured and weary the party left, taking the body in the hopes of selling it and informing the workers their boss was dead and that they should notify his next of kin.
