Session Report:
A red bearded dwarf named Dumak came into the Golden Plow, looking for adventurers. Usiel, Salisandra, Amelia, Acere and Rin went with him to the Trade District to meet his employer. The dwarf let them to a very nice and expensive looking mansion where they met the merchant Mr. Varga.
After a short discussion it was clear to everybody the situation could result in a win-win. The merchant needed some adventures to clear out an ancient dungeon he had found under some recently bought land and was prepared to pay them handsomely. The only downside was a lack of information. One very frightened worker was summoned who said something about skeleton archers killing two of his friends before he could manage to run away.
But nothing could hold back our adventurers. After shopping for mission specific items they went on their 30 minutes short journey to the site in question. Walking through the dug tunnel they almost immediately encountered the Skeletons the worker had talked of.
A lot of Skeleton Archers and a mean looking one with two swords turned out to be a drawn out and difficult fight, costing our group quite some strength (literally!). But they came prepared and had the resources to recover from the battle on site.
After the first, quite difficult fight the group went on to explore the dungeon. They found a lot of graves with writings in an unknown language and encountered a number of weird creatures that they easily dealt with: A pair of sobbing children with fox heads, a group of walking corpses and a couple of shadowy clouds. Those were no match for holy water and wands of cure light wounds.
The group came upon a deep pit with a secret door on the other side. Levitate and a couple of ropes got most o our adventurers on the other side. Amelia stayed behind to give her comrades cover with her bow. They opened the secret door with the key they had found and came into a large hall with many statues and a mummy sitting on a throne. The mummy stood up and started a long speech in an unknown language. After getting no response it started to walk up to the group.
Salisandra had enough of all that and tried to grapple the mummy with her hair. She was unsuccessful. Usiel took a swing at it and missed as well. The mummy used a flurry of blows against Usiel, knocking her unconscious. It turned out that the mummy was a mummy monk. Acere bravely turned the attention of the mummy monk at him by running into the hall and throwing alchemists fire at it. The creature followed him and landed a blow that stunned Acere. But this gave Salisandra enough time to heal up Usiel a bit.
Just in time, so that everybody could see the mummy knock out Acere to the ground; Dying, with Mummy Rot in his body. Salisandra and Rin decided that it was time to leave and went across the pit on their rope. Usiel couldn't reconcile with her conscience leaving a comrade behind, so she kept attacking the mummy.
Amelia, Rin and Salisandra, standing on the other side of the pit could see the mummy monk striking down Usiel. Immediately after that it came after the rest of the group. They managed to cut the rope against the pit in time and a last attempt at nonverbal communication was without success. The creature just jumped into the pit and came towards them.
The 3 survivors ran away, first hearing the mummy monk climbing the pit, and then seeing it chase them. But they managed to get away. Pretty certain that Usiel was unconscious but still alive, but uncertain about Aceres fate. His alchemical items especially had dealt some damage to the mummy monk, but not enough.
What was left of the party ran back to Rook, directly into the Plow to get some extra help. Magnus, Caisys, Morrigan and Esre did come along to the dungeon. Amelia and Salisandra stayed at the entrance while Rin went with the rescue party. They ran into the mummy monk pretty soon. It managed to get in quite a flurry of blows against Esre, but was no match against the combined power of spells, channeling, bombs and weapon damage.
The team hurried to the hall, finding Usiel still alive. But all hope was lost for Acere. They could only recover his body and bring it back to a temple in Rook.
While the original party collected their well deserved payment from Mr. Varga, Acere was brought back to live with the help of a salve from Caisys.
